- With the ever improving performance of LED in general lighting including luminance, energy efficiency, color rendering, and cost, it has become the lighting solution of choice for new installations. With the continual push by Mainland Government in accelerating LED deployment in Mainland China, including the policy that all new government purchases of lighting will need to be LED based, the market potential for LED lighting in Mainland China is tremendous.
In light of this HKEIA, HKETA, and HKPC have collaborated in an SDF project analyzing the development trend in LED Industry and study of local industry capability and gap, including interviews of 20 local SME. It has found that many SME has already build up their technical capability and product quality and be able to sell into markets in Europe, U.S. and Australia. However, in the Mainland, many low-cost and low-quality LED lighting suppliers dominate the market.
According to the survey conducted in"網上內銷指南" in April 2012, 72% Mainland consumers preferred HK Products because of their good quality and significantly, 62% are willing to pay more for Hong Kong brand quality products.
Hong Kong LED Industry, particularly the SMEs, currently do not have a platform and coordinated effort in the Mainland. They lack the opportunities to demonstrate and show off their product or solution, individually and as a group.
This project will carry out a "HK Quality LED" campaign in the Mainland for the promotion of the quality brand image of Hong Kong LED Industry through organizing business delegation visits, business matching sessions and "Hong Kong Pavilion" in key exhibitions in focused LED Industry hubs in Mainland, namely Guangzhou, Shanghai and Beijing.
The key expected outcome is to enable Hong Kong LED industry to broaden and increase its exposure to the Mainland domestic industry players and consumers alike by leveraging not on cost but on the strength of HK Brand of quality.
