Blue High-Definition (CBHD) Player won The 10th HKEIA Innovation & Technology Grand Award

A Blue High-Definition (CBHD) Player developed by Shinco Electronic Appliance Co., Ltd. caught the eyes of the Panel of Judges and won the Grand Award for the "2008 HKEIA Award for Outstanding Innovation and Technology Products".

The HKEIA Innovation & Technology Award, now in its tenth year, is held annually and is open to all exhibitors of the Hong Kong Electronics Fair. The Award is organized by the Hong Kong Electronic Industries Association (HKEIA) and it is sponsored by International Business Machines Corporation(IBM), Bank of China (Hong Kong) Ltd., UBS AG and Mobicon Group Ltd. and supported by the Hong Kong Trade Development Centre (HKTDC), Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC), Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP), Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute Company Ltd (ASTRI) and Hong Kong Design Centre (HKDC).

Led by Prof. Philip Chan, Dean, School of Engineering, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the judges deliberated upon the outstanding functions of the 20 finalists out of the nearly 100 entries with direct questioning of those finalists at their booths yesterday.

The panel of judges included distinguished representatives from academia, tertiary institutions, supporting organisations, and CEOs from leading electronics companies, They all remarked that it was very difficult in choosing the winners this year as the marks were very close.

"Winners of the Award exhibit an outstanding degree of sophistication." pointed out by Chief Judge Prof. Chan. He added that, "Buyers would pay more consideration on how product could be marketable in this challenging year and that's why this year our panel put more emphasis on the market value of the entries."

The presentation ceremony was held today (Tuesday), and each winner received a trophy from Mr Duncan Pescod, the Permanent Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development (Communications and Technology).

The HKEIA is dedicated to Innovation & Technology. To give new excitement to the 11th Award, The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) will be the co-organizer of the HKEIA Award for Outstanding Innovation & Technology Products next year.

Awards of the HKEIA are divided into 3 categories of products: Consumer Electronics, Portable Electronics and Industrial Electronics (Parts & Components).
